the yarn

Eager to start and unable to find yarn locally, we sought education from the sages of You Tube and soon were chopping up some old t-shirts and making the yarn ourselves. Enjoying the process so much, especially making something new from something old, discarded treasure transformed.

Since then, we have sourced material from local thrift stores, dead-stock fabric stores, community donations and free-cycling for anything from t-shirts to bed sheets.

The yarn used to make our bags is handmade in Studio. Each schein is made up of anywhere from 10-20 t-shirts/pieces of discarded fabric. Every bag saves around 5 lbs of textile waste from ending up in a landfill.

the design

A bag that stretches to hold a deceivingly large amount of nicknacks/oddities and essentials while still keeping its shape

Inspired by spineless sea urchins and the importance of sustainability.

The rounded front of the bag could also be mistaken as, and I quote, “tit-shaped”.

What ever floats your boat.

Anne Florence

I want to build a community and I think that connecting over things we are passionate about is how we go about that. It's really vulnerable to put yourself out there and say “Hey, I really like this thing that I made and I think it’s cool because of x,y,z and I hope you like it too!” So I am taking that risk and hoping that my story connects and feels familiar to people.

To get to know each other and to see ourselves in others, I think  we need to be able to be vulnerable. Vulnerable yet fiercely defensive of the core values we share. I feel a lot of anxiety around the state of the world right now, and doing this, launching this brand with a clear set of values and hope in my heart…feels like resistance and like I'm doing something towards seeing the world for what it could be.

So really it’s selfish! But in the best way. I don’t feel bad about when it benefits others, because I believe that what's good for me is good for you, what’s good for you is good for me, and that is good for everyone. I want to work together, not in competition.

All that being said…Welcome! Thanks for checking out Anne Florence and I hope you find what you are looking for <3

“I picked a bag out from Anne’s FW2025 collection for a Premiere at TIFF and couldn't have been happier. It was the perfect size and has stretch to accommodate a lil’ more than you think. Got so many compliments on my bag and can't wait to keep strutting it around. Love, love, love my piece  ”
